1. Who we are and what these terms cover

Gauntlet Challenge (‘the app’, ‘we’, ‘us’) is operated by Gauntlet Challenge Ltd, company no. 17273370, registered at 5 Brayford Square, London E1 0SG. These terms are the agreement between you and us for your membership and use of the app. By creating an account, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app. How we handle your personal data is explained separately in our Privacy Policy.

2. Who can join

Gauntlet Challenge is for people aged 18 and over. You confirm your age when you sign up. If you are under 18 you may not create an account or use the app. You must give accurate information when you register and keep your account secure; you are responsible for activity that happens under your account.

3. What Gauntlet Challenge is — and what it is not

Gauntlet Challenge is a space to share physical activity with a small group of people you choose. It is deliberately not a competitive or ranking service. We do not score you, rank you against others, or measure your performance, and we make no claims about fitness results, health outcomes, or improvements. Challenges are for encouragement and shared experience, not competition — there is no way to ‘lose’.

Your health is your responsibility. We are not a medical, coaching, or fitness-advice service. Take sensible care, and seek advice from a qualified professional before starting or changing any physical activity if you have any doubt about your health or fitness to do it. You take part in activities at your own risk. We never set you targets, prescribe workouts, or tell you to do more — what you do, and how much, is always your choice. Any encouragement you receive within a challenge comes from the people you chose to share it with, not from us.

4. Your membership, payment and renewal

  • Membership and trial: membership costs £12 per year (inclusive of VAT). New members get a 3-month free trial; if you do not cancel before the trial ends, your paid membership begins.
  • Auto-renewal: paid membership renews automatically each year at the then-current price unless you cancel. We will remind you before a renewal.
  • How to cancel: you buy and manage your membership through the Apple App Store or Google Play. You cancel the same way — in your App Store or Google Play account settings — at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
  • Store terms also apply: because purchases are made through Apple or Google, their terms and refund processes also apply to payment, billing and refunds, alongside these terms.
  • If your membership ends: if a paid membership is cancelled, or a gifted membership reaches the end of its term and isn’t continued, your ability to post and take part pauses. We keep your account — your name, your connections, and your saved completions — for 6 months so you can pick up where you left off if you return; if you don’t, we delete it automatically. You can delete it yourself sooner at any time. (This is account closure after a grace period — it is not ‘unfriending’; your connections simply end when the account does.)

5. Gifting a membership

  • How gifting works: you can buy a membership for someone else. They receive an invitation and a code to redeem it. A gifted membership is for a fixed term and does NOT auto-renew — it simply ends when the term is up, unless the recipient chooses to start their own paid membership.
  • Who the buyer is: if you buy a gift, you are our customer for that purchase; the person you gift it to is the member who uses it.
  • Refunds: gifts are bought through Apple or Google, so their refund processes apply to a gift purchase. Note that an expired, unredeemed gift is not refunded in cash — instead its value is preserved for you to re-issue as described above. This is the same membership you paid for being made available again, not a new purchase.
  • If a gift purchase is refunded: because gifts are bought through Apple or Google, a refund of the purchase is handled by them — and a refund reverses the whole purchase. If a gift purchase is refunded, every code from that purchase stops working, including any membership that has already been redeemed from it. If your own membership came from a gift that is later refunded, you will not lose access straight away: you keep access for 30 days from when we are notified of the refund, and we will send you one plain message telling you what has happened. This protects against a gift being refunded after its codes have already been used. (This is separate from section 11C, which covers refunds if we ever close the app.)
  • Promotional (free) codes are different: sometimes we give memberships away using promotional codes that nobody paid for. These are gifts from us: they have no cash value, are non-refundable and non-reissuable, and the reissue rules above apply only to gifts someone paid for.
  • How long a gift lasts before it’s redeemed: a gift code is valid for 12 months from purchase. If it isn’t redeemed in that time, it doesn’t simply disappear: the gift’s value returns to you, the buyer, as a code you can re-issue — so you don’t lose what you paid for. While a code is still unredeemed you can reclaim or re-issue it yourself in the app (or contact us at support@gauntletchallenge.com and we’ll help). Once a code has been redeemed by the person you gave it to, it’s locked to their account and can’t be reclaimed or re-issued.

6. Your content and what you may post

Your content stays yours. Anything you post — your updates, photos, comments, description and profile image — belongs to you. By posting it, you give us permission to store and display it within the app so the app can work (for example, showing your update to the other participants of a challenge). This permission ends when the content is deleted or your account is closed, except for anything we must retain for a legal reason.

You are responsible for what you post. You confirm you have the right to post it, and that it does not break these rules. In particular, do not post anything that:

  • is unlawful, harassing, hateful, abusive, threatening, or bullying;
  • is sexual, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate;
  • shows another person without their agreement, or shares someone else’s private information;
  • infringes anyone else’s rights, including copyright or trade marks;
  • impersonates someone, or is deliberately false or misleading; or
  • promotes self-harm, dangerous activity, or anything harmful.

Photos and your profile image. Take particular care with images: only post a photo if you have the agreement of anyone identifiable in it. Your profile image is shown to people in your challenges; we store and display it only, and never run facial recognition or other biometric processing on it.

7. Moderation, reporting and enforcement

You can report content or block another member from within the app. We don’t monitor everything that’s posted, but when something is reported to us we will review it. If content breaks these terms, we may remove it; if a member breaks these terms, we may warn them, suspend, or close their account. We aim to be fair and proportionate, and we keep reported content only as long as needed to deal with it (see the Privacy Policy for how long).

8. How challenges work

Challenges are created by members and shared with the participants they invite. If you create a challenge, you can change some of its details — such as its title or end date — after others have joined. If you join a challenge, this means the person who created it can adjust it; if a change doesn’t suit you, you can leave the challenge at any time. What you share in a challenge is visible only to that challenge’s participants.

9. Things that disappear

Most of what you share — your activity updates and comments — is designed to disappear automatically after about 24 hours. This is how the app is meant to work; please don’t treat it as permanent storage. Your own saved completions are kept as your private record until you delete them or close your account.

10. Using the app properly

Please use the app only as intended. Do not try to break, overload, reverse-engineer, or get around the security of the app; do not use it to harm others or break the law; and do not try to access other members’ data. We may suspend or close accounts that misuse the app.

11. Our content and brand

The app itself — its name, logo, design, and software — belongs to us. These terms don’t give you any right to use our brand or copy the app. You may, of course, share your own content outside the app if you choose; you can never export anyone else’s.

11A. Availability of the app

We provide the app on an “as available” basis and work to keep it running well, but we do not guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free. In particular:

• We may suspend, restrict, or interrupt the app — in whole or in part — for maintenance, updates, technical problems, or reasons outside our reasonable control, and we’ll aim to limit any disruption.

• Content that disappears on its usual 24-hour cycle is doing what it is designed to do — that is a feature, not a failure of the service, and is not a fault you can claim against.

• None of this removes our duty to provide the service with reasonable care and skill, or affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

11B. Payments and refunds

Membership is paid in advance for the period you choose (for example, a year). Because of how the app is sold and paid for, the following applies to refunds:

• If you cancel, you do not get a refund. Membership is paid up front for the period you choose and is non-refundable, except where the law requires a refund or the app store grants one (for example, the stores’ own 14-day refund windows for new purchases). If you cancel part-way through a period you have already paid for, you keep full access until that period ends — you simply won’t be charged again. We do not give partial (pro-rata) refunds for unused time when you choose to cancel.

• Payments are taken and held by Apple or Google, not by us. Refunds are processed under their policies, and requests for a refund generally go through the App Store or Google Play. We cannot directly take or return payment.

• None of this affects your statutory rights. If the service is not provided with reasonable care and skill, or is not as described, you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 that these terms do not exclude or limit.

11C. If we have to close the app

We hope never to need this section — but if we ever have to stop providing Gauntlet Challenge, here is what we promise:

• Fair notice. We will tell you at least 30 days before the app closes, by email and in the app.

• Your money back for time you lose. If you have paid for membership time that you will not get because we are closing, we will arrange a refund of the unused portion, worked out pro-rata (in proportion to the time remaining). This applies because WE are ending the service — it is different from you choosing to cancel.

• Gifts. If you bought a gift that has not been redeemed when we close, we will arrange a refund of what you paid. If a gift you bought has been redeemed, any refund for the recipient’s remaining time is made to you, the buyer — the recipient’s access simply ends with the app. Free promotional codes have no cash value and are not refunded.

• How refunds happen. Because your purchase was made through the Apple App Store or Google Play, any refund under this section is returned to you the same way — through the app store you bought from, under the refund processes those stores make available at the time. Where a refund is due under this section, we will support your request with the store (for example, by confirming your remaining time was unused). We never ask for your bank details.

• Your data. You will have a window to export your own content before your account and data are deleted (see the Privacy Policy). Anything the law requires us to keep (for example, tax records) is kept only as long as the law requires.

12. If something goes wrong — our responsibility to you

We work to keep the app running well, but we provide it ‘as is’ and can’t promise it will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses, for loss of content that has expired as designed, or for things outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. None of this affects your statutory rights as a consumer. Where we are liable to you and the law allows a limit, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for your membership in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim (or, if you paid nothing — for example on a free trial or promotional code — to £12).

13. Ending your membership

You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time from Settings; deleting your account removes your data, except anything we must keep for a legal reason (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or end your membership if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. If we close your account, you can contact us to ask why.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time — for example, if the app changes or the law changes. When we do, we’ll change the version number and effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect, so you have a chance to read it and decide. The current version always applies; you can view it any time in the app and on our website.

15. Law and how to contact us

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you have a problem, please contact us first at support@gauntletchallenge.com — we’d like the chance to put it right. For anything about your data, contact privacy@gauntletchallenge.com.
